Today's the day before the day.
So, we got a bit over 24 hours until we get the final word on where we're going this post-holiday season, and today's a good ol' day of teams fighting for their post-season lives.
College football is a wonderful thing. Any given day, underdogs can rise up and beat the giants of the world. Appalachian State can make their team name a national talking point, Stanford can inexplicably own USC year after year.
But, there are some days that your sports fan allegiances take priority over every human being's vague feeling of support for teams that are supposed to lose. Today, friends, is one of those days.
So underdogs: lose. Lose badly. Nebraska, I hope you lose with the fire of a thousand suns. Clemson, I hope that large swaths of your team forget how to play football simultaneously, resulting in frequent, comical, and violent accidents and Georgia Tech highlight reels.
Of course, all this falls by the wayside for our friends, the Hawaii Warriors. Normally I'm tempted to root against the Rainbow Warriors, because their fans get to live in an absurdly beautiful lush tropical paradise, so can't they at least have a bad football team? I mean, read this post and try not to cry, because when the wintry Lake Michigan breeze whips those tears off your face, you'll be even colder than you were before.
But for today, Hawaiians, unite. We need you. Whip up some pre-game mai tais for John Clay or something, do anything. Just come away with the w. May whoever you have selected to replace Timmy Chang and Colt Brennan, be, like, as good as they were..

oh, and
apparently, cincinnati uses the same “cat growling” noise we do every time we get a first down. which is weird, because NO CAT EVER HAS EVER SOUNDED LIKE THAT.
i'm stupid
in my defense, i posted this within mere half-hours of waking up.

Colt McCoy is getting more yards through the air being thrown backward by Ndamakong Suh than passing forward.

offense sure
but they announced some ridiculous statistic like “Nebraska has 27 yards of total offense in the first half,” so I think Texas still wins on the backs of their defense.
on the other hand, if Texas wins 10-6, does TCU jump them for the nat’l championship? I’d like to see that.
not gonna happen
although it probably should
ESPN The Mag
Yo ’Sip,
Can I call you Sip? I hope you recognized the reference to Travis Best’s character in Spike Lee’s joint “He Got Game”. I also hope you know who Travis Best is. And Spike Lee.
Anyways, have you heard about the ESPN Mag Page 2 article? You must have. We want your commentary.
Don't worry, its comin tomorrow.
There’s a fanshot about it too.
And he got game is my favorite movie, so, word.

i sent a thing to espn's adam rittenberg
hopefully he’ll address it:
“Hey Adam, big fan o’ the blog you got here, and I really respect your opinion, so if you would be so kind, I’d like to hear your thoughts on this:
I recognize that a lot of Iowa fans have a bit of disdain for NU, so I’m alright with the fact that this article is largely satire/dribble, but what I want to know is why the source material exists in the first place. I’m not an Insider and haven’t read the article, so I’d like to give you and ESPN a chance to clarify the situation. Don’t you know that Northwestern has been bowl eligible for 3 years in a row now? That we could go 9-4 for consecutive years? That we’re arguably recruiting better than ever? I mean I assume you know this, being the B10 blogger, but it appears that NU is largely still stuck in the doldrums of ‘national perception’ and this ESPN article, mostly by being titled “6 things to know about cheering for a /losing/ team” will only further this.
And that brings up a larger issue. Tonight while watching the FL v. AL game, Alabama’s opening drive and 48 yard field goal was dubbed “Outstanding” by the announcers. Really? Outstanding? No, that was routine for the number 1 team in the country. Outstanding would’ve been capping a 99 yard drive with a 30 yd td pass, kinda like the one Northwestern had against Illinois a couple weeks ago. It astounds me that people with national exposure can have such bias. What’s it going to take for NU to get the respect it clearly deserves? Or the Big Ten, for that matter (I know this has been discussed ad nauseum)? I don’t care if next year the media goes back to having doubts, but THIS years team has earned a bit of recognition for being much better than the national average."
I’d suggest other people do the same
