Dan Persa Ruptures Achilles, Out for Season

Stay connected for news and updates

Terrible news to put a bit of a buzzkill on an amazing victory by the Wildcats. On the final offensive play of the game - the one where Dan Persa threw a game-winning touchdown to Demetrius Fields - he ruptured his Achilles. He will have surgery tonight and miss the rest of the 2010 season.

Evan Watkins will start next week at Wrigley Field against Illinois.

Here's to Dan Persa. He was a warrior all season long, won Northwestern several games - including today's - with his gutsy play, and you figured that he was going to start paying the price physically eventually - but to see it actually happen is devastating. In all likelihood, he'll end the year with the nation's highest completion percentage. Start the Heisman campaign for next year early.

On the plus side, enjoy NU's huge win.
