Northwestern Has New Jerseys
On the right here is the screenshot from NU's 2010 yearbook describing the new jerseys. We won't see the actual thing for a few weeks - maybe not even until the opener at Vandy - but, hey, it's confirmation. They are indeed the uniforms we saw on Spread Far the Fame back in March, so, kudos to them on the scoop. It's the first significant uniform change since 2002.
I'm semi-obsessed with uniforms, so, I'll have something to say next week on the topic. But for now, enjoy this black-and-white two dimensional artists' rendering and description of them.

My question is...
when can I buy the new jersey? I don’t want to be out of date when I show up to the first home game this fall!
In any case, I think these unis are a good move, although I do despise constant uniform changes. It brings back some traditional aspects of NU uniforms (Northwestern stripes) while still looking modern. I’m still waiting to see if they have the home alternate black jerseys made up that they’ll pull out for some big game at some point, although I do like that their normal home jersey is purple.
Do note that NU has made some minor uniform changes since the current ones debuted in 2003, all of which were font changes (the number font got smaller in 2004, changed in 2005 and again in 2006).

Yeah....
…we need a blackout/black jersey game. It would just be cool to do for one game, maybe every couple of years, at night….pump up the team, pump up the fans, blast “Back in Black” over the newly awesome speakers….
Nothing on this year’s home schedule appears “black jersey” worthy (kinda like “sponge-worthy,” only involving wearing black jerseys as opposed to having carnal knowledge of Elaine Benes)…..next year, though, if we get Michigan, or Ohio State, or Nebraska, or Penn State, maybe, at night, we should consider breaking out the black jerseys….
yeah
i wouldn’t be surprised to see an initiative like that later down the line… but if they did it, they’d introduce the jersey shortly before the game to hype excitement. a lot of other colleges do one-off jerseys, throwbacks… hell, some schools come out with two or three new jerseys a year. nu doesn’t typically do gimmicks like that, but i could see it in our future.

And a color change
I believe the shade of purple used changed in 2005 or 2006. The road uniform font color changed around then, as well, I believe.
I’ve always felt that we should have purple jerseys with traditional, all-white NU striping. I’m not thrilled with the inclusion of black, both on the striping and the pants, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
It was said on the Rivals board that the replicas would be available probably at the end of this week. The same person also said that late changes were being made to the jerseys, so I suppose that’s why there’s been no unveiling yet. Many teams with new uniforms this year have showed them off at their media days. At the very least we should see them at Meet the Team Night.

I think the old, traditional, 1990s-2000 purple...
….is the way to go. Then again, I always thought Northwestern did a pretty bad job at picking one purple and sticking to it….a failure in branding. We should have a “Northwestern Purple” or “Northshore purple” that is the permanent and official purple color of everything that is licensed with the Northwestern name/logo on it, university-wide.
I agree that it’s a failure in branding. We really need a single shade of purple, though I’d prefer the shade we’ve been using recently to the one used in the ’90s.

I think you'll see that happen in the next few years
Nu marketing is starting to get it

We do, almost
Except for the Athletic Department, the rest of the university is (supposed to be) using a single, uniform purple. I’ve done some web design for different parts of the school, and if we use purple pretty much anywhere, we’re supposed to use RGB 82, 0, 99 or hexadecimal #520063. Try here and put in the hex code to see the shade.
Contrast that with the dark, bluish-slate-purple #2d1b45 that the NUsports.com splash page uses, or the purple of the previous uniforms, which I think is somewhere in the neighborhood of #46316c.
Granted, colors on a computer monitor are not the same as colors on fabric. But I’ve got to think they could match a bit better.
I bought a tyrell sutton #19 jersey. It's time for a new one
Its about time the Northwestern stripes are where they belong. I hated the 98-02 UCLA shoulder stripes and the USC shoulder stripes after that.

I'm not sure I like black pants for home games
I’d prefer purple jerseys with white pants for home, and white jerseys with purple pants for away. What do you guys think?

I guess we'll see in a couple weeks
I got my season tickets in the mail today, thus marking the beginning of my college footballgasm.

footballgasm?
sir, this is a family site.
(no it’s not, i named it after an ilitic homebrewed drug. i’d actually like to congratulate you on being the first person to end a word with “gasm” on this site. congratulations.)

they just need to pick a uniform and stick with it, stop changing it every few years
as long as its not hideous, i dont really care what they decide
At least they aren't Oregon...
Who have hundreds of different uniform combinations and currently change up every game and could very well change every play if they wanted to.
