Northwestern, 30, Rice, 13: Post-game thread
W!
For the second week, Northwestern won a boring game in boring fashion. By scoring early, often, and not giving up anything on defense to a team they were clearly better than - although this time, our backups eventually relented and allowed a Rice touchdown in the waning seconds.
Dan Persa's completion percentage was decidedly more human-like, but, it's okay, because NU is 3-0 and looking significantly better than we normally do against seemingly inferior squads. Also, because Dan Persa, even at his worst, completes a higher percentage of passes than the amount of plays Owlvision successfully broadcast - I stopped by Buffalo Wild Wings, and witnessed some serious buffering while listening to minute-old WGN audio.
If you got stuff to say, here's the place to say it.

This must be what real teams feel like when they solidly beat teams that they should.
Reality has a little-known Northwestern bias
NU prez knows how to get PUMPED
wait
are we a real team yet? maybe someday…

Considering we had to get game updates via carrier pigeon and smoke signals, I’d say no, but this “easily handling less talented teams” thing is a nice change.

Just another Wildcat victory
I’ll tell you one thing: It sure is nice being a freshman in 2010. Three victories before classes start. Wow. Lots of fun. Can’t wait for CMU next week.
Also, I love Dan Persa. His man love meter is reaching Coach Fitz levels.

A Few Random Observations...
1. We need to stop running the football. Just chuck it 70 times a game. I mean it.
2. Persa looked good again. Why isn’t he getting any Heisman love yet? He’s been arguably better than Denard Robinson. I know it’s not going to last once we get into Big Ten play, but for now why not?
3. Central Michigan demolished Eastern Michigan yesterday. That game scares me. But then, so did this one. As an NU fan, I’ve been conditioned to expect disappointment.
Still, if we get by that one, I could see us being unbeaten heading into the Penn State game. And Penn State hasn’t looked that good (they only scored 24 on Kent State). Wisconsin didn’t look great, either. And Iowa lost too. This season may be setting up very nicely for us.
I don't know about the Persa/Robinson comparison
Even for the most die-hard homer NU fans, Robinson is in another league. His 80 yard TD run vs. Notre Dame should show that.
Persa is playing great, for sure, but Robinson isn’t far behind him passing. Plus, he is leading then ENTIRE NCAA in rushing yards (as a QB, mind you). If Persa keeps this up through 8 games, I’ll reconsider.

Before we chuck the running game
we need to exhaust all of the possibilities. ALL OF THEM. We need a running game.
Can’t NU negotiate non-conference games on the basis that there must be some type of real television feed, even if that means a sports bar?
They probably could, but in the end isn’t a W more important?

thats actually a really good question...
i take the w every day of the week, though

why do we have to choose between the two?
as you just wrote in the recap, it’s embarrassing for us as a Big Ten school to not have the game on TV in the Chicago area at the very least. NU should do everything in its power to get every game on TV in the future.
we don't
i just like hypotheticals. would you rather eat a watch or get hit as hard as possible in the foot with a hammer

I'd eat the watch
That I might gain its power.

This will likely be the last untelevised Northwestern game ever
I can’t see Northwestern playing at a CUSA stadium again.
Reality has a little-known Northwestern bias
NU prez knows how to get PUMPED
i can
but i don’t see us forgetting to negotiate for tv rights.
