Upset Special: Women's basketball beats No. 23 LSU, 44-43
No. 23 LSU was all like, yo Wildcats, we saw you at our game last year, and we know you stole our win.
And NU was all like, I don't know what you're talking about, we've always won against you.
And LSU was all, then you better bring it.
And NU was all, oh it's already been broughten.
Our Wildcats went into Baton Rouge on Tuesday, and just like last year against the Lady Tigers, and just like the men's team last week, we came out on top, 44-43. NU was down 43-40 with 1:24 left, but Allison Mocchi was like, no biggie, hitting a jumper as the shot clock expired to bring the Wildcats within one. NU then had two chances to hit the game winning shot, but two breakaway layups wouldn't fall. Head coach Joe McKeown was all like to the ball, "The basket is your home! Are you too good for your home?" But then Morgan Jones drove baseline and got fouled with 11.3 seconds left, and she was like, "I'm cool as a cucumber, watch me as I drain these two free throws for the lead." The Lady Tigers then tried a three-pointer in the final seconds, but it hit nothing but air, and our Wildcats had grabbed the upset victory.
Awesome game for our 'Cats (who don't need no patronizing "Lady" in front of their name, cuz our Lady 'Cats are cheerleaders), who now move to 4-0 on the year. Brittany Orban led the Wildcats in this defensive-minded affair with 13 points, plus 7 rebounds, while playing all 40 minutes. Jones came close to her first career double-double, with 11 points and 9 rebounds.
Up next is a tough game at home against cross-city rival No. 20 DePaul on Sunday. Win that game, and our Wildcats will probably get ranked or close to it. Let's do it, 'Cats.

The write-up alone merits a rec.
But this is awesome. Orban’s an awesome leader on the court who will do whatever’s asked, Jones (if she can limit turnovers) is a great guard, and we’ve got enough in the middle with Cole and Diamant to challenge teams. Oh, and meet Kendall Hackney.
Awesome win for the ’Cats. Bring it, Lady Demons.
If I wasn't one already, I am becoming a huge Brittany Orban fan.
As MNWildcat said, what a leader, especially pulling a Juice Thompson and staying out on the floor for the full 40.
(This is where I will note that Brittany, along with Eric Peterman, Jeff Budzien, and most of the current offensive line, falls into the “I had a class with them and they were way better in that class than I was” camp.)
Dennis Green won Big Ten Coach of the Year. Pat Fitzgerald hasn't. Therefore, D-Green > Fitz. QED, motherf***ers.

Don't you hate that?
Getting outdone by D-1 athletes… Very humbling.
Though I know I did better than Kevin Coble in a poli sci class my freshman year…
To be fair...
He stopped showing up to that class about 3/4 of the way through the quarter.

Kinda like his Northwestern basketball career?

(GIF shamelessly stolen from Loretta.)

I feel it appropriate to point out
that the class was Mechanical Engineering 260: The Mechanics of Sports. Given that Brittany Orban is a starting basketball player in the Big Ten and I’m, you know, not, it’s probably actually good that she beat me.
But we’ve got to be the only school in this conference where at least one member of the offensive line says something insightful in Environmental Economics damn near every day.

Well, yeah
All the other ones are saying something insightful in Criminal Justice classes…riiiiiiight?
Is that too far? I should go to bed.

What a damn winner.
I’m really happy that NU is being coache by Joe M. He will succeed, and I’m fired up for that.
Wonder why facilities, lack of tradition, academic restrictions, weather, geography, conference, etc, etc isn’t holding him down? You know why, he’s a winner.

Boy, get a thinner veil.
Also, he was a hire out of NU’s league. We were damn lucky that a guy with that much success and that good of a reputation wanted to come here because of how Jim Phillips reached out and sold Northwestern.
But yes, please, turn this thread into another derp-fest. I don’t know why I keep hitting my head against this nonsense.
For fuck's sake.
Seriously?
