When people ask me why do I have a personal dislike for Fitz, here is why: This is from Teddy G's twitter:
Fitz: "What’s most disappointing right now, how darn close we are and for us not to coach us well enough to get to that point (Indy)."
Are you kidding me? Seriously? NU was 3-5 in the Big Ten, the teams in the championship game are 7-1 and 7-1 (or potentially 6-2). That is no where close to 3-5. Sure, I will acknowledge that NU has lost some close games, and perhaps NU could be a bit better, but that is no "close to Indy." That is what bothers me. I just don't think Fitz realizes what his record is. I think he knows that he has an administration behind him regardless of record, b/c of his personality and let's not forget his awesome APR/graduation rankings. He has a fan base that supports, but that is not growing given the last two seasons.
I give TONS of credit to Fitz for turning around a 2-5 season to get to 6-6, but I am concerned that he feels this team is "close to be in Indy." This team was no where near close this year, and I really have no faith that NU will be there in his tenure.
We can recycle the debates about recruiting rankings, but what will improve in the next 2-3 years, recruiting or coaching? B/c clearly, the present combination is not working.
Unless going to the New Mexico bowl is working for certain fans.
I know there are many diehard fans of Fitz, but I hope we are all diehard Northwestern fans and be openly critical of the direction of the program. I feel confident that the 'floor' for Fitz is 3-5, but I'm not sure the ceiling is any higher than 5-3. I think if NU had won today, I could have felt much more positive about the future, b/c two Top 10 upsets in one season says a lot, but right now, NU beat a top team and lost to a bottom team. Guess what, that happens to many teams, many teams beat a top 10 upsets and has a season go no where.
