Northwestern 75, Minnesota 65: Postgame Thread
Behind 35 points from Michael Thompson (his career high and a Big Ten tournament record), shockingly competent bench play from Nick Fruendt, and a Minnesota effort that could generously be described as "disinterested", Northwestern pulled away in the second half and advanced to the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals.
With the win, Northwestern should now be safely in the NIT, and tomorrow at high noon, they get another shot at the #1 team in the land, the terrifyingly good Ohio State Buckeyes. Hey, stranger things have happened.

Fun win
It’s too bad we can’t go from Minnesota to someone that merely doesn’t suck, instead of freaking tOSU. Oh well, play hard, hope for the best.
We will have an advantage over OSU
Surely, Thad Matta didn’t think he’d have to come up with a scouting report on Nick Fruendt. He will be our ace in the hole.
And don't forget...
….the fear that will be struck in the Buckeyes when Luka takes off his mask!
(and then promptly fouls out)
I like our chances
Rather OSU than Wisky, and I think Juice isn’t done. Im feeling a HUGE game from him.

Good game against a bad team
Classic Northwestern. Good to see us play well without any depth to speak of. Juice is basically in Kobe mode right now. He’s going to jack up as many shots as it takes to will us to victory. He’s been playing like this all year and it’s great to see him get some recognition for it.
I’m also going to take credit for the unexpected performance of Nick Fruendt. Why, you ask? Well, I ran into Mr. Fruendt at an establishment near the Northwestern campus a couple weeks ago. Many of the basketball players were there, but Nick was all alone. Being a nondescript looking white guy isn’t very helpful, especially at a school that really couldn’t care less about sports. He had to look on as Reggie Hearn and Austin Nichols talked to semi-attractive females. I felt bad. So I went up to him and told him that I covered the team for student media outlets (he was confused as to why anyone actually recognized that he was a basketball player). The short-lived conversation ended with Fruendt saying to me “Let’s be friends.”
So yeah, I am the reason for his seven points today.
Also, does Carmody get a 4 year extension now? You didn’t think you were getting a comment from me without some snarky statement about NU sports, did you?
