Northwestern Basketball At Wisconsin Game Thread
Northwestern Wildcats at Wisconsin Badgers, Jan 18, 2012 8:00 PM CST
Northwestern is off to the Kohl Center, where Bill Carmody has never won. Also, both JerShon Cobb and Alex Marcotullio are out with injuries, meaning the NU bench consists of Luka Mirkovic, Nick Fruendt, Omar Jimenez and James Montgomery III. So, yeah.
But all of Northwestern's best players are ready to go, and Wisconsin hasn't been their usual unbeatable self at home, so there's hope.
Talk about the game here. But please do not request, link to, or otherwise discuss illegal video streams of the game; you could get SB Nation sued or otherwise punished.

pointed out that Wisc students still on break….said about 200 in attendance…
Playing at the Kohl Center could definitely be worse
so
like playing a normal game at Northwestern?

and furthermore
underrates every quality win NU gets. Or at least I feel that way.

Down early, but
I like the way we’re taking it to them. I will take our shots over theirs.

it's strange
playing a team as white as us.

I can't believe I'm going to say this
But time to bring in Luka to give Curletti a blow
by SeattleCat on Jan 18, 2012 8:28 PM CST via iPhone app reply actions
luka
looked really bad last two def posessions
Wisconsin’s already given up their typical quote of home points in a half. Think they’re maybe a bit uncomfortable?
ok shurna rested for 1 min
can he come back in now?
"cult films"
dude in my house runs it so a bunch of us go regardless of whether we have a chance of winning

i don't see the upside

blech
not a good last minute…..but cant complain going into HT with a chance to win
uh oh
teddy says montgomery came in because drew was “clutching his hand”
When you're down to 7 starters/bench guys....
…it’s gonna be hard to score.
Meh...
…it’s nowhere near as bad as the one with football players in the huddle talking about calculus. THAT one was embarrassing.
Crawford
just watched slow-mo replay. He got hurt diving for the loose ball.
Looked like he hyperextended his elbow, even though Teddy G reporting hand injury
By the way, I'm proud.....
…our game comment thread is SOOOO much more interesting/active than Wisconsin’s….
props to you
I can never tolerate reading opponents game threads…always pisses me off

To Bucky's credit...
…they are nowhere near as insufferable as the MSU fans’ thread was for that game. They seemed to completely ignore the fact we were a pretty good (top 30ish) RPI team, and kept saying we sucked, losing to NU is embarrassing, etc….real bad form….like Iowa football fans.
I love BHGP....
…say what you will, but they love their team and have a great sense of humor…..
Teddy G:
“Drew Crawford is warming up. First attempt was an airball. Keeps trying to loosen right hand.”
Oh, and while I'm here....
LET’S HAVE A REAL GOOD TIME, LET’S HAVE A REAL GOOD TIME, LET’S HAVE A REAL GOOD TIME, LET’S HAVE A REAL GOOD TIME, LET’S HAVE A REAL GOOD TIME, LET’S HAVE A REAL GOOD TIME, LET’S HAVE A REAL GOOD TIME, LET’S HAVE A REAL GOOD TIME, LET’S HAVE A REAL GOOD TIME, LET’S HAVE A REAL GOOD TIME, LET’S HAVE A REAL GOOD TIME, LET’S HAVE A REAL GOOD TIME, LET’S HAVE A REAL GOOD TIME, LET’S HAVE A REAL GOOD TIME…..
Rovell occasionally makes good points that are somewhat obvious but no one else has said:
@darrenrovell: “Networks HAVE to monitor Twitter. I’ve known a star player is hurt for 8 minutes. No mention by studio show or broadcast team yet.”
Hearn continues to impress me....
…love the way he plays. Good job getting to the line.
Crawford looking healthy so far....
….and Shonn Morris speaking French. Weird.
Kohl Center? REALLY quiet.
I mean, you can hear the referees talking to the players on the court. Seriously.
the Morris app
Never been downloaded

Longer we stay in this game....
…..the better I feel.
How come every teams best players literally cant miss 3s against us?
Hardaway Green and Taylor are probably like 10-12 against us
Ugh.
Needed a timeout after Taylor hit that 2nd three…..now they hit another. Ugh.
Wisconsin
Can shoot, kinda
by Rodger Sherman on Jan 18, 2012 9:12 PM CST via iPhone app reply actions
to go up 7
Down 12 now

Man, you guys bail early
We will get a run
by SeattleCat on Jan 18, 2012 9:14 PM CST via iPhone app reply actions
Jake Harris and the one other guy in the Wisconsin thread....
…are happy in the most boring way possible right now.
That looks like game there
gonna be tough to come back with our pathetic rebounding and average defense…not to mention shurna hasn’t done shit in a while
hard to recover
from 15 pts on 5 posessions
At this point...
…Shurna should just be taking half-courters.
yet again
some average team is going to convert 100% of their low percentage shots against us
You could see this coming.....
…with no bench, we have a lot of tired legs out there.
still though
most teams still dont hit 9/14 from 3 against anybody
by JerseyShore@NU on Jan 18, 2012 9:18 PM CST up reply actions
Idk have we?
I mean we’ve def made 9 before….but we usually shoot like 18 a game
by JerseyShore@NU on Jan 18, 2012 9:20 PM CST up reply actions
Then again...
…this game is not over yet. We just need to get a bit of discipline out there, run the offense, and trust the defense.
Curletti doesn't want brother Luka to look bad
by SeattleCat on Jan 18, 2012 9:20 PM CST via iPhone app reply actions
Moving on to other games...
We desperately need to sweep Minnesota. They won’t shoot like this, but we’re still gonna need to play looser, more comfortable ball. Would really help that to get Cobb / Marco back.
+1
Those guys could really help tonight.
by SeattleCat on Jan 18, 2012 9:23 PM CST via iPhone app up reply actions
Nice thing about being a team that shoots the 3 well....
….we can come back in a hurry if we got hot.
Plus, we can force a lot of fouls on them if we keep driving on them….their defense is aggressive and foul-prone. That could extend the game.
you're right
nebraska’s made the tournament.
by pfoley on Jan 18, 2012 9:29 PM CST up reply actions 1 recs
We ain't gonna get the stops here
Even if their 3 shooting goes real cold (as they hit another) they’re getting what they want inside with Bruesewitz anyway
Can't fault Curletti there....
…good defense on Taylor. Taylor just made the shot.
man, I'd give JT that shot all night
by SeattleCat on Jan 18, 2012 9:27 PM CST via iPhone app reply actions
Sobo shot way too early....
…need to work the offense.
Wisconsin's 10-16 from 3....
….that’s the ballgame right there. We’re not bad on defense, frankly…..
JESUS CHRIST ON A STICK
No one can beat a team that shoots that hot from 3…
they are shooting from Sheboygan
by SeattleCat on Jan 18, 2012 9:30 PM CST via iPhone app reply actions
Oh come on...
…Sobo’s been mugged ALL GAME and you call an offensive foul on THAT?
Glad Carmody got that technical....
…proud of him for telling off Hightower on that bullshit.
it's worth losing just to see BC get a T
by SeattleCat on Jan 18, 2012 9:32 PM CST via iPhone app reply actions
this game could have been won
I really fuckin hate wisconsin so fuckin much
What?
Sobo committed that foul? NO ONE WAS TOUCHED!!!!
That foul HAS to be on Curletti...
….no way Sobo got called for that. He literally was 8 feet away from any Badger when the whistle blew.
The announcers corrected
It was Curletti
by SeattleCat on Jan 18, 2012 9:38 PM CST via iPhone app up reply actions
Ahhh...announcer error.
Curletti on the foul, when he went up shoulder to shoulder with a Badger for a rebound.
man, our foul shooting has sucked
by SeattleCat on Jan 18, 2012 9:39 PM CST via iPhone app reply actions
dear nu players
if you’re going to kick the ball, kick it so it hurts ed hightower

this is a dangerous time
Tired, unfocused … High injury rusk. White towel time, Bill.
by SeattleCat on Jan 18, 2012 9:41 PM CST via iPhone app reply actions
Well, we keep battling....
…down 18 now with under 5 to play.
And we might have won....
…if Wisconsin wasn’t Alford/Reggie Miller-like from 3-pt range tonight.
Oh, totally agreed.
But I’m saying if you were thinking that we walk into Madison and suddenly everything’s changed and we should win, you were kidding yourself.
Best chance out of any of the last few years? Definitely. It’s still UW on the road, though, with a 5-man lineup.
Small crowd and very weak Wisc. team
this should be a close game, i thought NU could have dominated tonight but….then i realized it was NU
didn't know about our line up issues till game time thought
which is clearly a big deal
Oh for Chrissakes
then i realized it was NU
Go lock your door and turn up the emo music.
There’s NU fatalism, then there’s attitude like that.
Like i said i didn't realize our bench problems
I’m only talking about the basketball team, which I have very little confidence in.
Not that it matters
but i didnt find out how deep they were having to go in the bench till I saw guys who i don’t know like montgomery getting a minute at the end of the 1st.
this is par for the course
when ed hightower calling an nu game. pretty sure he was on the call for twoshotssullinger episode 1
Keep in mind...
…I think we’re going to easily surpass the Badgers’ normal opponent PPG average….this is just Wisconsin shooting way too well, even against pretty good defense by the Cats (lots of contested 3s)
I can take this one
I had a 9-9 scenario without either this win or Sparty, so we’re ahead of that.
by SeattleCat on Jan 18, 2012 9:44 PM CST via iPhone app reply actions
I swear I heard a whistle before that alley-oop....
….looks like our guys did, too, based on the defensive breakdown.
clear the bench, bill
If Drew or Shurna get hurt, I’m going to hurt you.
by SeattleCat on Jan 18, 2012 9:47 PM CST via iPhone app reply actions
wisky dunk
then replayed at least 7 times. followed by “i didn’t know we had that many cameras! it looked good on all of them”
so
can we sweep the next 5? i think we might have a chance to. if the other teams don’t go fucking off like that
we gotta win at least 3 of the next 5
otherwise it’ll be tough without a very strong finish
