USC Wide Receiver Kyle Prater Will Transfer To Northwestern
It was made official today during the basketball game against Purdue (that is making my eyes bleed and driving me to alcohol), that Kyle Prater will transfer to Northwestern.
Prater is a former five star recruit, which is really good. Based on the past five star recruits who have transferred to Northwestern revenue sports programs from perennial powerhouses, Prater won't be any good (see: Thompson, Mike). Sample size of one means everything!
No but seriously, this is very good news for Northwestern. Prater will have to sit out next season but will still have three two more years of eligibility after that, which is nice. Pat Fitzgerald is doing a great job of bringing in talented receivers; the future at that position is perhaps the brightest of anywhere on the field for NU. An excellent off-season of recruiting appears to be turning the tide of optimism for this program despite the disappointing season.

Yep
even on the broadcast! Wonder if he’s at the game?
Hope that it ends up being a good fit.
i believe he is at the game
or was at one point anyway
He'll probably be the best receiver we've had since D'Wayne Bates
He got injured and stuck behind the depth chart at USC. That’s rough. However, lets go back to his high school days:
He was a freaking monster. He was the #10 recruit in the country. He was the best offensive player in Proviso West history . Ron Zook tried everything to keep him in state. Everyone wanted this kid. (I went to a conference rival high school of his years ago. Every defensive player in the WSC Silver knew this kid was going to the NFL and doublecovered him. Still didnt work)
I cant wait to see what happens in fall of 2013 (he has to sit out a year). Kolter/Siemian/Oliver to Prater should be a sight to see.
Kyle, welcome to NU!

One note...
…some reports state that Northwestern is petitioning the NCAA to waiver the transfer one-year sit-out rule due to “family considerations” or something.
If that succeeds, Prater could play in 2012, AND would have 3 years of eligibility left (not 2)….which, frankly, would be a HUGE boost to our team.
Can he play basketball?
Heck, can he coach basketball?

great news on a rough day.
huge boost for recruiting.
loretta, how do you figure he has three years of eligibility left?
it was an educated guess
is that wrong? i was rambling trying to hit the 150 word minimum and did zero research, the basketball game was on.
I think he is transferring after his redshirt freshman season
so after a one-year sit-out as a transfer, he’d have two years left.

Incredible offseason.
9-3 to 6-6, yet adding some EXCELLENT & ELITE football players. That is a huge win. Keeping Hankwitz was questionable, but I don’t think it is defensive schematics rather lack of players, so adding elite players like this will only attract others.
Even being a Fitz hater, I do not hate on this at all, and more of these players will produce more wins.
Congrats Pat Fitzgerald on really upping recruiting recently. Well done.
