Stay Calm; Have Fun.
I have a problem with people making definitive statements about sports pretty much all the time, and now is one of those times.
Northwestern has six games left in its season. As of right now, Northwestern is firmly on the NCAA Tournament bubble. Some bracketologists have Northwestern in, some have Northwestern out. With six games left, the games are on the schedule that provide NU the opportunity to prove they are worth it or do the opposite. We can go scenario by scenario and debate which ones will allow NU to play and which won't - for the record, I'd say the dividing line is somewhere around 3-3 with a win in the conference tournament, if they don't have a win one of their three wins has to be a major upset to talk tourney - but whatever.
My point is, saying Northwestern's season is over with every loss or that they are in the tourney with every win is not only pointless, it's also wrong. Here, folks, are the predicted outcomes of NU's final six games according to Ken Pomeroy's numbers:
Pomeroy's numbers, which are surprisingly accurate as a predictor, say that NU is so evenly matched with three of its final six opponents that the predicted final result is a one-point game. In a fourth game, the predicted final outcome is two points. While it predicts Northwestern will go 2-4, almost nothing would have to change for NU to go 4-2. Essentially, a highly complex and accurate algorithm with thousands upon thousands of pieces of data is looking over Northwestern's last six games and after all the calculations, can tell us definitively that Northwestern's chances of making the tournament are a toss-up.
This is college basketball in mid-February. Hopefully you haven't become too jaded or indifferent to it after years of not wondering whether Northwestern would make the NCAA Tournament from being too far off the bubble. Maybe the upcoming three weeks will be the most fun in the history of Northwestern basketball. Maybe it'll break our hearts. Either way, it's going to be wild, and I'm really excited to see it unfold.
This is the stretch run. Let's have fun with it, y'all.
Go Cats, etc.

anyone for bets on what time shurna becomes all time leading scorer?
I’d put end of 2nd half at home against Minny as the over-under.
Either way, it will be cool to see him become all time leading scorer/ one of the best players in NU history.

so you're telling me to keep a strong beverage nearby
To calm my nerves as NU plays tight games down the stretch. Time to reacquaint myself with Jack Johnny and Jose.

Close Shave, America?
The Razor’s Edge?
Razor Burn?
Jim Delany’s Deep Pockets?

anyone else remember
The BTN pregame segment during the 2010 football season when they had some guy make Nachos/dip/guacamole with Rotel/velveeta? I wish I could find those segments on YouTube because they were just OOZING with unintentional hilarity.
The tattooed chef looked like an ex OSU lineman who didn’t actually know how to cook, and all the recipes consisted of throwing Rotel/Velveeta together in the microwave with maybe 3 other ingredients. Then, Dave revsine would come over and sample some and be like “yeah that’s delicious” when I had the suspicion that the producer came up to Dave beforehand and said
“Dave, if you value your job and mine, you’ll act like this is the best damn dip you’ve ever tasted.”

I agree that emotions are swinging wildly from game to game depending on the outcome. I have been following NU hoops for too long to think that they are going to pull this out.
Maybe this year will be different. I hope it is.
Either way, life goes on.
Regardless of outcome...
… this team has shown some heart and guts after I thought there was no chance. I’m starting to really like these players, especially Reggie, Shurna, Sobo, and Marco. It’s a shame we’re losing three of them next year.
lots of good moments this year
Sobolewski looks to be the future of the program and Reggie Hearn coming out of nowhere to step up huge this season. They control their own destiny and I haven’t been more confident about a NU bball team than this one, so I can’t wait to see how this unfolds. Great article and hopefully we’ll all be happy drunks on Wednesday night. Go Cats
Michigan and Minnesota are the make or break to me.
I understand that every game is important, and if NU beats Indiana, then my assessment is completely irrelevant. But, I really look to those back to back home games as a mental breaking point for this team.
I feel confident (maybe too confident) that NU will beat PSU and Iowa. I feel confident that NU will lose to Indiana and OSU. That leaves those two middle home games against teams that beat us by a lot (Minn) and a close loss (Mich). I think NU has to get one to hit the 8-10 plateau, which puts NU into the tournament according to most.
Thoughts?

Commom sense says OSU will crush us
but there is a part of me that thinks John Shurna becomes a legend in his last game at W-R

You've been hanging with Snooki again, haven't you?
But I love the way you think.
