Congratulations John Shurna, the Northwestern Wildcats' All-Time Scoring Leader!

Stay connected for news and updates

With a wide-open three tonight, John Shurna passed Billy McKinney to become Northwestern's all-time scoring leader. With four (scheduled) games left in the season, Shurna's 19 leaves him with 1,902 on his career, two more than the 1970's guard.

The most important thing to happen tonight was that Northwestern never trailed in a convincing victory over a bubble team, leaving Northwestern in good shape to finish the season by earning an NCAA Tournament bid. But Shurna's record is memorable and awesome. It seemed like this quest would take another game after Shurna stayed scoreless for the game's first 17 minutes, but he exploded to finish the first half with 10 quick points and nailed an open look in the second to take the all-time title.

For some reason, random gigantic John Shurna cardboard heads were handed out to the fans, and I ended up with one of them. However, someone took it away from me as I tried to leave the stadium and told me I couldn't keep it. Serious bummer. I want that John Shurna head.

We'll have more (awesome) coverage of Shurna's accomplishment as the days pass, but for now, let's enjoy this win and his record. Congratulations, Johnny, you deserve it.
