Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Northwestern Wildcats, Game Thread

Iowa Hawkeyes at Northwestern Wildcats, Feb 9, 2012 8:00 PM CST

Sup y'all!

It's a must win! I don't have the heart to write any more than that right now so I won't!

Okay, I will. Bill Carmody is giving $1000 to the DM group that's bringing the most people to the game tonight. So if you're a Northwestern student and doing DM, DON'T GO TO THE GAME TONIGHT. I want my group to win and hate all of you and I want the money for myself my DM group so back off. (No word on whether when they say "Bill Carmody is giving $1000, they actually mean "Bill Carmody", but whatever, awesome gesture by whoever.

Did any of you guys know that Icehouse actually goes down somewhat smoothly when you refrigerate it? I'm finding that out for myself right now, in bulk. Well, I probably should stop talking. Anyway, if you have things to say about the basketballs, jumps and say things.

Can the Cats make the tourne?

And if so, does that increase the odds they will lose this game?

by WrigleyvilleReb on Feb 9, 2012 8:02 PM CST reply actions

Just finished watching my Rebels

seal their NIT fate. And if I recall correctly the announcers mentioned NU’s drought before half time. NU is always a popular topic for teams in a tourne drought.

by WrigleyvilleReb on Feb 9, 2012 8:12 PM CST up reply actions

Rebels are still in the middle of the SEC

which is where Northwestern needs to be in the Big Ten to make the tournament. They can both make it if they finish strong in conference play. That will be enough ole miss talk, Hotty Totty

Is it just me

Or is Marcotullio in a really big three point shooting slump?

I’m not good at looking up stats, so maybe it’s just me.

by bangnblame on Feb 9, 2012 8:16 PM CST reply actions

i'm reading this after the fact

and i’d just like to say that even if he was, he’s now OH SO TOTALLY NOT

by pfoley on Feb 9, 2012 9:59 PM CST up reply actions

Also

Refs don’t want to call fouls on us right now?

by bangnblame on Feb 9, 2012 8:22 PM CST reply actions

Froo looking a little shaky

He’s in shock he’s in the the first half.

by SeattleCat on Feb 9, 2012 8:35 PM CST via iPhone app reply actions

He also got fouled on that one

But it was an awkward shot so I think the refs didn’t want to honor it

by bangnblame on Feb 9, 2012 8:36 PM CST up reply actions

'Sup?

Quiet night tonight. Oh wait, we’re playing Iowa. Everybody’s giving hell over at BHGP.

by Sasser on Feb 9, 2012 8:41 PM CST reply actions

Wow

They have a lot more comments

by bangnblame on Feb 9, 2012 8:44 PM CST up reply actions

Damn

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Shurna hit a reverse layup

by GoCats815 on Feb 9, 2012 8:47 PM CST reply actions

So...

1) We’re up 9 at the half.
2) We’re playing at home.
3) This is I_wa we’re talking about.

Think we can avoid #$%&ing this one up?

by Sasser on Feb 9, 2012 8:47 PM CST reply actions

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed

that crazy-ass half.

Come out with foot on the gas

Wanna see more blocks, steals, and aggressive shots

by Glopknar on Feb 9, 2012 8:52 PM CST reply actions

Seriously.

If we can win this one comfortably, I think 9-9 is still a legitimate possibility.

by Sasser on Feb 9, 2012 8:55 PM CST up reply actions

Yes

No mercy tonight!

We're in the bonus?!

with 16 minutes left?

Wowsers.

Slowest first four minutes of a 2nd half ever.

by Sasser on Feb 9, 2012 9:12 PM CST reply actions

I can't figure out which situation is more absurd...

…the fact that we’ve got 15 points through 5 minutes, or that Iowa is somehow keeping pace.

by Sasser on Feb 9, 2012 9:15 PM CST reply actions

Go Cats

I love quiet Iowa fans. Let’s just bury these fucks already.

And the Haterade’s flowing over there.

Their point guard does that jumping

before he passes the ball thing. Not good.

The Kraken

Has been a monster tonight.

by SeattleCat on Feb 9, 2012 9:43 PM CST via iPhone app reply actions

why

Why are the starters out there up 22 with 2 minutes to go?

by Nirvana91 on Feb 9, 2012 9:48 PM CST via mobile reply actions

Signature win: Seton Hall?

Uhhh..Michigan State, anyone?

www.massivecreativity.com

by macarthur31 on Feb 9, 2012 9:48 PM CST reply actions

I think Seton Hall gets in the Big Dance.

RPI’s comparable to ours and their schedule should get them to 9-9 easily.

by Sasser on Feb 9, 2012 9:49 PM CST up reply actions

But yeah...

They shouldn’t forget MSU.

by Sasser on Feb 9, 2012 9:50 PM CST up reply actions

Deserved Standing O.

Iowa may have got beatdown tonight, but these guys have beaten Michigan and swept Minnesota. I think our boys have responded and it’s time to kick it up another level.

"Over-Rated" Chant? Really?

Iowa isn’t even “rated” let alone “over-rated”.

by WrigleyvilleReb on Feb 9, 2012 9:51 PM CST reply actions

nope

They were actually chanting “start your tractors.” No joke.

Ha

Never doubt the snark of NU(ians).

by WrigleyvilleReb on Feb 9, 2012 10:24 PM CST up reply actions

The announcer has really been going

out of his way to blow NU all night. I feel like I am listening to John Madden talk about Brett Favre.

Suddenly everyone in my family is like...

NU is going to the tourney, right?

I’m like: talk to me after they win their 9th B1G game.

by wcgrad on Feb 9, 2012 9:58 PM CST up reply actions

Even though my sample size is 1

I feel like Iowa fans are the only ones who preface NU with a little “j” (just-Northwestern). Is it because they always struggle against the Cats or do they suffer from a pseudo “little brother” complex? Or both?

I think it's from Corey Wootton sacking Ricky Stanzi

I think Black Heart Gold Pants set up that moniker – you could ask them…

by wcgrad on Feb 10, 2012 12:18 AM CST up reply actions

Dates back to the Shonn Greene game

Lots of back-and-forth between BHGP and LTP’ers. They came out with the clever insult cards beforehand, we played a lot of “no respect” cards in return, and it went back-and-forth from there. This was pre-SOP.
