Seven championships in eight years. Wow.
Northwestern beat Syracuse by two, but dominated nearly everything about the game besides goals scored. NU had basically twice the time of possession, won draw controls 12-4, and didn't really struggle despite a relatively close game in terms of scoreline. A well deserved national championship for a team that was the best on the field tonight, although it is unfortunate that they never were able to beat Florida, the team that beat them twice.
It was a pretty all around team effort for the Cats: Tewaarton Award Finalist Taylor Thornton had two goals and two assists, including the go-ahead goal that put the Cats up for good, Erin Fitzgerald had two goals, and Northwestern's play on defense and on the draw control was more or less impeccable.
This wasn't the best year for Northwestern sports, with an NIT loss and a bowl loss, but a national championship in NU's best sport doesn't hurt.
Herman will have actual analysis later. Go Cats!
