Hey, Kyle Prater's eligible! The NCAA said they would release the information on whether the former No. 1 wide receiver in the country would play this season sometime in July, and sure enough, they did: at just about the close of business hours on July 31. Their dedication to submitting things before the deadline but for the love of all that is holy, not an infinitesimal drop of time earlier, reminds me of, well, every single person I met in college. Props to them for being true to their word, in some sick, twisted way.
No. 32, Mike Trumpy, junior, running back
Who he be: Trumpy is that rarest of things at Northwestern, a promising running back! The 6-foot-1, 210 pounder from Wheaton North had three stars out of high school and was ranked as the No. 1 running back in Illinois, with offers from Stanford and Vandy and a top-3 finish in the state in hurdles. Despite all that, people probably didn't expect much from the Trumpiest of running backs, because we're all secretly racists inside our head, and he received sparing playing time for the beginning of his redshirt freshman year while Arby Fields and Jacob Schmidt dicked about in starting running back spots. But when he started getting carries, he started cranking out 50 yards a game on over four yards a carry, which at the time, was something to be very excited about. Then, he busted out 100-yard outings against Indiana and Illinois - including an 80-yard run in the Wrigley game - the first such performances since Tyrell Sutton left school. He still ended up as Northwestern' leading rusher, despite less than half a season of carries. He looked promising then, and promising now, but a pair of injuries ended his '10 and '11 seasons, his wrist as a freshman and his ACL as a sophomore. Northwestern really could've benefitted from having a legit running back last season during a five-game losing streak, but Trumpy was out.
The Trumpty Dance is your chance to do the Trump: There's a lot of things you can do with "Trumpy", and most of them are possible as lyrics in the Humpty Dance:
Mike "I like my oatmeal" Trumpy
Q: The best book I have ever read is and why?
A: Green Eggs and Ham
I thought Seuss' wordplay and lyrical prowess reached its apex in his seminal "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish", but the masterful imagery of "Eggs" is certainly one of the greatest achievements of the English language as well.
It's good, I swear:
Q: Something people would be surprised to know about me is:
A: I have never had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich
Dude, some foods are overrated, but believe the hype on PB&J's, Trump.
Looking forward: The Donald is back from his ACL injury and should be Northwestern's starting running back this season. If he keeps up the play he's showed in limited carries over two seasons, he's a potential 1,000 yard back, which is something that seemed damn near impossible in recent seasons around NU. Northwestern needs a healthy Trumpy - there's not much else in the running back cupboard.
