Philadelphia Eagles Sign Andrew Brewer, Mike Kafka Probably Rejoices

Mike Kafka will turn this football-related frown upside-down when he gets to throw to Andrew Brewer again.

One of the more potent QB-WR hookups in recent Northwestern history is reunited at Philadelphia Eagles training camp, as the team signed Andrew Brewer after two of their wide receivers suffered injuries. Brewer joins former Eagles' fourth-round pick and current third-string QB Mike Kafka on the Eagles' roster.

With Ron Johnson suffering a season-ending ankle injury and Riley Cooper out for the next six weeks, Philly needed some training camp legs at the wide receiver spot. They looked to Brewer: after the Outback Bowl, Brewer spent two years playing with the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL; his general manager there was Rick Mueller, now a player personnel guy for the Eagles, who probably put in a good word for Brew. (I literally can't find any evidence the UFL had any statistics last year, so sorry I can't tell you how Brewer did for the Nighthawks.)

Brewer might not have a great shot at sticking with the Eagles - they have 13 gottdang wide receivers on their roster - but with players out it's a shot nonetheless. Hopefully, him and Kafka can impress in some preseason games with a few more big plays for old times' sake. Kafka's definitely going to stick - I had written a lot of stuff on this, but it was all wrong so I deleted it after someone corrected me in the comments. (Yeah, I know.)
