Woah! Why was Hunter Bates making a tackle on a play where he was on the field as a punt returner? Oh. Oh, yeah, now it makes sense. Dammit.
SEVEN DAYS TIL FOOTBALL YALL YEAHHHHHH LETS GET READY TO NEGLECT OUR LOVED ONES BECAUSE SPORTS
No. 7, Ifeadi Odenigbo, freshman, linebacker
Who he be: Simply put, Ifeadi is one of the better recruits NU has landed in recent memory: four stars, offers from the whole country - Alabama, Michigan, OSU, Notre Dame, USC - but the Centerville, Ohio native chose Northwestern. Sixth-best DE in the country, per ESPN. Let's watch him kill people!
Looking forward: Iffy O projects as either a DE or linebacker, but seemingly won't play this year on account of being only 220 pounds. He'll put on weight, and he's 6-foot-4 and a freak athlete. Still an outside shot at NU burning his redshirt, but it doesn't look like it, yet.
No. 7, Hunter Bates, senior, safety
Who he be: Hunter is a safety who has slowly trickled out of playing time over his four years at NU: he seemed to be a potentially good punt returner and started three games at safety in 2010, but didn't play much at all last year and had his punt returning role usurped by Venric Mark.
There's only one week left until football: Word.
Persa: Sadly, not as strong anymore. But we'll love him forever.
Looking forward: Hunter has a chance at the safety spot opposite Ibraheim Campbell in his final year at NU and is probably Mark's backup at the safety spot.
