Two quick notes before this week's rankings. First, I've added predictions from MNWildcat, who posts them weekly at OTE. If I'm missing any other sites that have consistently published weekly predictions for Northwestern games, let me know in the comments, and I'll try to add them going forward. Second, at the suggestion of pfoley, I also added predictions from Troy Nunes is an Absolute Magician. It might be a challenge for Western Michigan and Maine, but each week I'll try to find predictions from opposing bloggers and show how their median prediction fares relative to predictions from NU bloggers.
Now, without further ado, the rankings for week two:
With one exception (LTP), MSE was decreasing in predicted score for Northwestern this week. Nobody overestimated the number of points the 'Cats would score, and all but two underestimated Syracuse's score. The top two predictors distinguished themselves by nailing Syracuse's score (Glopknar) and the margin of victory (MNWildcat). Collectively, Northwestern bloggers performed slightly better than Syracuse bloggers, with the larger predicted margin of victory in the NU crowd outweighing the lower predicted Syracuse score. The best individual Syracuse prediction was the same as the median NU prediction. Last week's NU predictions were much better than this weeks; six predictions from week one had lower MSE than week two's best prediction.
I'll also be ranking predictors throughout the season by averaging MSE across predictions. Here are the season to date rankings, updated through week two. MNWildcat leads the way, but Sippin' on Purple is heavily represented in the top five.
