2019 women's basketball recruit Kaylah Rainey had open-heart surgery back in November. Now, she's ready to participate in the playoffs for Belleville East High School. Check out her first-person story on ESPNW. It's well worth a read.

Pack wants to interview Fitz

+

I personally don't think Fitz would do well in the NFL, being much more of a rah-rah culture guy who can sell NU than an X's-and-O's wizard, and those are the types of coaches that excel in the NFL, where everybody is working for a paycheck and there's no loyalty from club to player or player to club. If Fitz is smart, he'd realize that too. Lifetime appointment at NU beats a 3 year gig in the NFL. But even if he goes, we'd do fine. We have Ayeni and we may be able to pull Kafka (and some people's fervent wish may just become realized).

Review of the offense against Duke from a Michigan perspective, with a strong summary of how the offense is less than the sum of its parts

Pretty generic positive facility writeup with some Fitz quotes

Taphorn to Pardon advances to Round 2 in the ESPYs

1

Remember to keep voting for Northwestern basketball's buzzer beater to win Best Play at the 2017 ESPYs. After getting through the first round, Taphorn and Pardon face off against Russell Westbrook's buzzer beater. Come on Russ, that was one buzzer beater in a relatively meaningless regular season game. Give this one to the 'Cats!

Baseball's Cooper Wetherbee pens excellent farewell to NU

+

Seriously, just go read it. It's an excellent recap of what it means to wear purple, penned by a clearly multi-talented Northwestern student (and former NUMB member! what?!).

A taste:

My friends and I fell into the typical freshman over involvement trap, signing up for every club or student group that caught our naïve eyes. While I didn't stick with everything that I tried out, I remember feeling grateful to attend a school where students took pride in reaching their highest potential in many areas of interest, and by the end of freshman year I had added Greek life, club baseball and membership in a student-run consulting group to my dance card.

InsideNU, this guy would be well worth an interview if you can get one. I wish Cooper the best of luck in wherever his life's journey takes him. He's a credit to Northwestern alumni of all stripes.

The stats prove it: Fitz is one of the best coaches in college football.

At least in overperforming the number of wins stats say he should have.

Northwestern baseball sweeps Rutgers, will play in Big Ten Tournament

1

With a 5-4 win over Rutgers in the second game of Friday's doubleheader, Northwestern baseball clinched a spot in this week's Big Ten Tournament. The Wildcats finished the regular season with a 24-28 overall record and 13-11 mark in conference a year after going 15-39 (7-17 Big Ten). This will be their first Big Ten Tournament appearance since 2010.

Clayton Thorson receives invite to Manning Passing Academy

2

Clayton Thorson is getting some recognition from the Manning family. Northwestern's starting quarterback was invited to be a counselor at the Manning Passing Academy, an elite high school football camp run by Archie Manning and his sons. The camp, which usually hosts well over 1,000 campers, attracts many elite college quarterbacks to serve as counselors. Heisman winner Lamar Jackson will also serve as a counselor this year. Players like Dak Prescott, Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston have also been counselors in past years. It's a huge honor to be invited as a counselor, and it's great for Thorson to get some more recognition.
