No NU football players wear No. 93 and we already covered Will Hampton, who wears No. 92, so here's this! We discuss stuff, like the secret lab under tech that builds hyper-accurate QB prototypes.
Not good. From the Trib, Persa's Achilles was at 65% during his tryout with the Buccaneers, and only 50% during the season. All the more credit to him for sticking it out through the year. All the best to Dan on his road to recovery.
Pretty big deal considering this team was 18-25 at one point this season. They won their last eight Big Ten games just to make it to .500 (which is necessary for postseason eligibility). The just made the tourney as the lowest ranked team in the Austin Regional. But none of that mattered today, as NU berat Texas 2-0 in the first round thanks to a stellar performance from pitcher Amy Letourneau. The 'Cats also got RBI singles from Marisa Bast (who is having a huge year) and Mari Majam. Now this could very well not turn into anything. For those unfamiliar with how the NCAA baseball and softball tournaments work, the 64 teams are divided into 16 groups of 4. Each regional has one seeded team (1 through 16) and that team hosts the regional. Only one team advances out of each regional. Basically, the only team that does not lose two games in the regional is the team that advances. Great start for the 'Cats, but they'll need to keep it going to make a super regional.
For those of you soccer fans, SBN has been running Relegation Week, imagining if college football had relegation. Today they ran a simulation of the last seven years, and, surprisingly, Northwestern stays up in the Big Ten through the whole thing. (Hope you didn't like Minnesota and Indiana). Of course, we should all be glad there hasn't historically been relegation in the NCAA, because the 80's would've seen Northwestern playing in the nPower League 2 or worse by 2012.
This might be the deadest time of the year for football, but OTE commenter hoegher has just posted a statistical preview of the 2012 football season. While you are over there, be sure to check out any of the Northwestern week pieces you missed.
Nice work, Chad
Just the one announced game--Vandy under the lights on September 8th, 7pm CST on the BTN. That's right, September 8th. Can't wait to see all the Northwestern students packing those stands. Wait. Shit.
I'm not sure if all of you visit the SB Nation Big Ten football blog Off Tackle Empire, but I posted this piece today and I'm kinda proud of it. Basically a treatise on why you should hate Illinois, complete with references to French Missionaries, Ghostbusters, bad 1980s sitcoms, haunted construction equipment burial grounds, E! Reality show stars, and jumping on couches. Enjoy....and Go Cats.
I'm not hosting the SportsVoice nor did I do the interview, but some of my colleagues at WNUR sports conducted a 1-on-1 interview with Kyle Prater after the Spring Game. It'll air tonight on the SportsVoice, which is on WNUR (89.3 FM or sports.wnur.org) at 8 central tonight. Listen in!
John Shurna shot 60% from 3pt range, and tacked on another basket and-1 to score 12 while grabbing 2 rebounds for the East team in spite of playing a paltry 22 minutes. The East team won 103-99 in a game which featured 8 ties and 9 lead changes. Shurna averaged 2pts/FGA to be the most efficient shooter on the floor for either team. Shurna again bested Juan Fernandez from 3pt range, while Jae Crowder led the team in scoring (25 pts 5 reb 3ast 3 stl), Scott Machado in assists (11 pts 8 ast 3 reb) and Ramone Moore in rebounds (15pts 9 reb). For the West, Ricardo Ratiliffe of Missouri recorded a double double with 25-10 to lead in scoring, New Mexico State's Wendell McKines had a monster game on the boards (15pts 18rebs) to lead in rebounding and Long Beach State's Casper ware stuffed the stat sheet with 10pts 7 ast and 5 reb to lead the West in assists. Post links to any accounts of the game in the comments.
