Northwestern gave up 26 unanswered points, so here's your postgame thread!
Northwestern was actually hanging tight with Illinois at one point. The score was 19-15. They weren't hitting any shots - Alex Marcotullio was pretty much the only player who did in the first half - but the 1-3-1 defense was working and Illinois was shooting bad shots.
Then, murder happened. Illinois started drilling shots from the field, forcing turnovers, and scoring in transition. They scored 26 points in a row.
26! In a game of basketball where a scored basket caused possession to alternate! I don't think I've ever seen that, certainly not between two teams in the same conference, certainly not when the team that had zero points beat the other team a few months ago.
That's about all she wrote. There wasn't any need to continue watching with the score 45-15. James Montgomery III got some extended run.
So, commenters, to you I speak: let's say you think Bill Carmody should be fired at the end of the season. That's a perfectly reasonable viewpoint and many of your fellow commenters will agree with you. But no matter how you feel, treat your fellow commenters with respect and remember that they, too, likely want Northwestern to win basketball games, even if they disagree about how to do that. Keep that in mind as you express your opinions, because there's a tendency to act like that isn't the case.
