Northwestern-Penn State Injury Report: Ifeadi Odenigbo, Roderick Goodlow Out For Season

Talented freshman linebacker Ifeadi Odenigbo will receive a medical redshirt for the Northwestern Wildcats after hurting his shoulder in his only game of the season. Roderick Goodlow is also out for the year. Safety Ibraheim Campbell should play against Penn State.

Bad news out of Northwestern's Monday press conference: defensive ends Ifeadi Odenigbo and Roderick Goodlow will not play for the rest of the season.

Although both players have promise, the injuries won't majorly change Northwestern's depth at the position, as they've combined to play in two games this year.

Odenigbo will receive a medical redshirt due to his shoulder injury, meaning his participation in the team's win over Vanderbilt won't hurt his future eligibility. It seemed suspicious that Odenigbo had gotten DNP's in three consecutive games after being a much-hyped four-star recruit and breaking into the depth chart for the team's second game. Although nobody wants to hear about an injury to a player getting hurt, the news that he will retain four years of eligibility after the decision to burn his redshirt is certainly silver lining. He was probably a bit underprepared to play as a true freshman, regardless.

Goodlow, who began his career as a linebacker but is now listed as a defensive end, had recorded three tackles in three games, and has only appeared in five games since tearing his ACL in preseason camp in 2010. He seemed promising as a true freshman, appearing in eight games, but hasn't been able to play much since then. Goodlow has a year remaining of eligibility and could presumably gain another if this year was counted as a medical redshirt, but his player profile lists him as a senior, so its unclear whether he plans on continuing his Northwestern career. I believe he was playing on special teams, for the most part.

Pat Fitzgerald said that all the players who were hurt in the team's victory over Indiana, including safety Ibraheim Campbell, should be ready to play Saturday against Penn State. That's great news regarding Campbell, whose absence seemed to hurt the Northwestern secondary in the second half against the Hoosiers.
