Northwestern has announced that they'll play in the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl on New Years' Day.

Northwestern will officially head to Jacksonville to play in the Gator Bowl against a still unannounced opponent, as Northwestern sports has confirmed that they'll be appearing in the New Years' Day game against an SEC squad.

That's what they tweeted a few minutes back, confirming what we pretty much already knew about Northwestern's bowl destination. Yes, Northwestern got jumped - well, depending on your definition of getting jumped considering we got jumped by teams that beat us and also one who had more wins - but still. Northwestern has a chance to win a bowl game for the first time since the 1940's, so let's stop complaining about who got picked where and start getting pumped about the fact that Northwestern could win.

It's probably against Mississippi State, as we've said a bunch of times, but that's still up in the air thanks to our good friends at Texas A&M. As Garry Smits of the Florida Times-Union reports, the Aggies don't want to play Texas in the Cotton Bowl because, uh, awkward, which is sort of holding the entire SEC bowl selection process hostage.
